Can I check out books from the Worcester Art Museum (WAM)?

Answer

Holy Cross students, faculty and staff are eligible to borrow books from the Worcester Art Museum (WAM) Library. WAM books will appear alongside Holy Cross books when you search in CrossSearch and/or the Library Catalog.  To borrow a WAM book, you can:

  • Visit the library in-person.  You will need to present your Holy Cross ID card just as you would at Holy Cross.

    or

  • Request to have the book sent to Holy Cross
If you are searching in CrossSearch, click the Library Catalog Record button to open the Library Catalog record for the book you would like to request.
In the Library catalog, next to the book's status, click Request this item (make sure the status says Available).
Log-in to your Holy Cross account, then fill out the request form and hit submit. You will be notified when the book is available for pick up.

Whether you borrow in-person or request online, books can be renewed through your online library account, and check-out periods and limits are the same as for Holy Cross books. When you're done, return the book to the Dinand Library Circulation Desk -- we'll get back it back to the museum for you!

Note that, because WAM is a specialized collection, certain books (such as books from the Higgins Library) are not available to borrow; these are marked in the catalog record as Non-circulating. At the discretion of the WAM Librarian, certain other books may not be available for borrowing if they are rare or in poor condition; in these cases, we'll try to help you get another copy via Interlibrary Loan.
